As Mark, our illustrious and largely fearless director, has said many times throughout this process, “THE LAST DAYS OF JUDAS ISCARIOT” is a play that is all about the questions. Is Judas guilty? Is God’s justice truly just? Is there free will, or are all our actions predestined? These are the questions Mark asked me (Maddie Cavallino, dramaturg) the first time we met to discuss this play. Some of them I now have answers to, others I am still trying to figure out and may not have one definitive answer to, even at the end of this massive undertaking that is trying to do live theatre in a global pandemic.
As a preface: to compile the cosmology for this show, I used information I found in my research specifically for this show, along with textual analysis of John Milton’s Paradise Lost, Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett’s Good Omens, and my own Catholic upbringing. As such, I will be capitalizing “God” and “He” when in reference to God or Jesus, as is practice both in Christianity and in this play.
